The Club (PS3)

The Club (PS3)
Customer Review: Ruined by unfinished online component.
The main single player game will be allot of fun if you like to hone your arcade skills with multiple plays through the same level. I didn’t enjoy it that much but I really bought The Club for it’s online multiplayer.

Unfortunately the lack of a friend list or any way to lock hosted games to specified users means that there’s no way for me to play on a server with friends. Every online session is with a random collection of players. This is fun for a while but it quickly becomes boring especially as there is also no voice support online so there’s no way of working out tactics with your ad-hoc team as you play.

The 360 version isn’t missing these online options probably because Microsoft wouldn’t sign off on it’s release without them. However as they weren’t required for the PS3 release they just haven’t been done. It’s ruined what would have been one of the PS3’s better games.

Customer Review: Not as terrible as people say
I was reluctant to play this game at first as I had read the other reviews about how bad it was and that its boring, but after playing the demo I got a pleasant surprise at how refreshing the gameplay was and how it had its own gameplay style. It uses a points based system which I thought was intuitive and enjoyed playing it and so it is not as terrible as people make it out to be.

Timeshift (PS3)

Timeshift (PS3)

It’s never obvious what to make of delays in video games. Sometimes it’s simply an indication of a problem production that ends up looking out of date before it’s even released. Other times though it’s simply evidence of ruthless perfection: thankfully TimeShift seems to be the latter. At first glance it seems like any other first person shoot `em-up, with some technically impressive but artistically ordinary visuals. What makes it unique though is the gameplay, with the best use of time travel in a game since Prince of Persia.

The story of the game involves the unlikely named Aiden Krone go back in time and changing history to suit him - kind of like a more evil version of Back to the Future, Part II. However, the time travelling doesn’t end there as the special suit you’re strapped into to chase after him also allows you to stop, rewind or slow down time whenever you want. Since Krone has got his own version of the same kind of time suit many of the enemies can’t even be properly seen under normal conditions because they’re moving too fast, but there are more subtle uses for the rewind and stop powers. Slipping past guards or running through a burning building becomes child’s play, while stopping time, running up to an enemy to grab his gun and then nipping back to cover to shoot him with it is just one of the game’s unique pleasures. Even if Doctor Who wouldn’t approve.

Customer Review: What a waste
this is an awful game. the graphics are bad & the gameplay is just boring, its repetitive & why would you want to shift time anyway especially when its in a video game. you would have to be mad to buy this game.

Customer Review: Repetitive, bad animation and weak storyline
I think my title sums it up really. I have to agree with the reviewer who posted saying it was like a PS2 game. Not sure why it is receiving such rave reviews. The in game graphics are passable, but with no lip-synching. Which I find strange for a ‘Next-gen’ title.

Gameplay is fun, if a little fiddly at times. The timeshift button combinations sometimes don’t work quite how you want them to, which is frustrating in the middle of a fire-fight as this can lead you to waste your ability.

The story. Well, I have to be honest, and say, you have to guess parts of it, as it is very disjointed. Occasionally you get a 5 - 10 second FMV cutscene (I thought nextgen games didn’t do this anymore) that tries to explain what is going on. I was never really involved with the story. But maybe thats on purpose for the next installment.

On a plus though, blowing up the bad guys in slow-mo or time-freeze is great fun. But I don’t think Sierra should have based a game around this alone.

Overall, I was confused, a bit bored and only finished it because I spent ?50 on it. Your choice, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Buy COD 4 or Uncharted instead. Both are more enjoyable and have a longer lifespan.

Customer Review: Nice to the touch!
If you play for hours then this will make your grip a little easier. It feels great to the touch with added grip and provides a bit more protection to your controller if you drop it!! The only downside for me was i had some controller docks (which i actually liked!!) but they don’t slot in to the mini usb with these on. Shame!

Stuntman: Ignition (PS3) Customer Review: “ACTION!!”
I am addicted to this game it’s great to just pick up and play, has great graphics, sounds and menus. Basically you are a stuntman hired to perform stunts in big movies the game is’nt too hard but it takes a few go’s to remember the exact route of each scene without missing any marks.
The whole game is well thought out and load times are great - the game is very immersive although you may find yourself ploughing into an oncoming vehicle or brick wall due to you eyeing up the gorgeous surroundings instead of looking at the road! Each movie stunt scene you drive in is different and I find myself forever going back to better my last score. Also the in-game slo-mos when you make a jump are a lovely touch and you can save and replay your stunt runs to see how they looked! If you want something a bit different, fun and with lots of colour and explosions -buy this! It’s superb fun!
Customer Review: Fun with crashes, turns and stunts, a bit repetative if you don’t progress quickly
I first tried this when I downloaded the demo from the PSN, and finally decided to buy the full version. If you are not sure, then download the demo and see for yourself.

It’s fun or frustrating, depending on how good you do. Essentially you listen to the director and look for yellow targets while driving around a film set. Each set has six scenes, starting off relatively easy and getting more difficult and longer. The magic trick here is to memorise them and then you know where to position yourself for the next take.

It can be frustrating since everything is designed to be in the way if you miss a stunt, or crash into something you shouldn’t of, or miss your mark. But it can be fun when you get your flow going and hit all the marks. If you miss five stunts during the scene, the director will call cut and you will have to start again, and he will tell you off, which can be funny for a while but downright annoying when you take 20 goes to get to the end. He also praises you and offers his sisters phone number when you do well.

So the trick is to do all the stunts at the right place and in as short a time as possible. When you make it to the end of a scene, you are awarded a rating, one to five in stars based on how many stunts you missed and the time it took. To get the really good points you need to string it, which means you need to complete a stunt or something stunt like (scrape a car, miss an object by an inch etc) within two seconds of the last stunt. To progress to the next scene you need to score reasonably well, I found a two or three rating should do the trick.

There are several films in production, the first is a sort of rip of a volcano movie such as Dante’s Peak, escaping from a town with lava flowing down the hill, you have to jump, crash, handbrake turn, slide your way to safety. You get to use a few different cars and a motorbike while escaping.

The second is a sort of rip of The Dukes of Hazzard with the good old boys running around a small town, this time you get to try a few different vehicles, such as the armoured van, the souped-up pickup truck, motorbike, etc. The third, fourth, fifth etc, well who knows, not made it that far yet.

Overall it is fun to play and easy to pick up and let your friends have a quick session too. It can get repetitive if you take a while to memorise the scenes and are not the best gamer around, but I find it’s best to dip in and out of it for 30 minutes at a time, but I always have a laugh when playing and anyone else who has a go loves the idea too, I can’t get them off it.
