Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground (PS3)

Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground (PS3)
Tony Hawk is thirty-nine now and yet already nine of those years have been spent appearing in Activision’s yearly skateboarding sims. As such he has nothing at all to prove any more but in this game you do, as the series takes a turn away from the action adventure gameplay of previous titles and recalls the glory days of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2. Not only does it include real world landmarks from the older game, such as FDR Skatepark and the Love Park, but it also sees the return of favourite features such as Create-a-Park.
In the main single player mode you create your own skater and then follow their entire skateboarding career in one of three classes: hardcore, rigger and career. Hardcore skaters aren’t interested in competitions or trophies, career skaters are and riggers prefer to invent tricks and layouts out of ordinary environments. The control system expands on the Nail the Trick concept from the last game, which essentially creates a kind of slow motion bullet time that zooms the camera in closer to your board. Proving Ground adds in Nail the Grab and Nail the Manual which work in a similar way. New moves include the turbo boosting Aggro Kick and Skate Checking, which basically amounts to knocking people out of the way. Like many new game at the moment the online community will allow you to upload videos of your endeavours as you attempt to prove you’re the best, at the best new Tony Hawk’s game for years.

Customer Review: This Isnt The TH Games I No
Ok so i was excited at playing THPG after loving all the other games released and being an avid fan. I started playing THPG after i had played & completed skate which i loved. When i started playing THPG i was dissapointed in the framerate and the story line and the challenges, but i carried on playing becuase i thought it could only get better.
Well it didnt in fact it got worse and just really felt like you were playing thps3 with random challenges that didnt really add up to a good storyline.
so wen i started playing EA’s Skate it took me a little while to get used to the controlls and to learn the tricks this really felt that i was progressing throughout the game, but in THPG the first thing i had done was something like a 360 heelflip to nose manual to 360 flip out which didnt feel to exciting at all. the button for doing tricks and doing the tricks i will have to say are boring.
i mean u can even grind up a 20 set rail at full speed, wtf?!?
the only thing good about this game is the 3 different skateing options
if you are looking for a good fun challenging satisfying game buy skate and unfortunatly i would say give this a miss for this year.
Sadly im going to have to give this game 3 stars. And im being nice.
Customer Review: THPG vs Skate.
i played the demos for both these games from the ps3‘>ps3 store, before renting both from blockbuster for a couple of days. I’m quite a fan on the tony hawks series, however i’d heard some really good things about skate. After playing both, i chose to buy Skate, which i have since played through three times and absolutely love.
so whats wrong with THPG? Firstly the game is plagued by framerate issues, and although Skate. suffers with dropped frames at high speeds, it’s even more noticeable here. Secondly, the graphics are AWFUL. it looks horribly cartoony, and the facial animations are pretty bad, to the point that any character talking looks like a gormless idiot. Thirdly, whilst THPG’s control system is nice and simple to pick up and play, it suffers from feeling a little bit too easy. It’s so simple to flip in, grind and flip out that you don’t feel you’re really doing much. On Skate., the controls are so dynamic, and so much tougher, that doing the same is cause for celebration. Skate. feels more real than THPG as its so much more difficult to link tricks together.
Which brings me onto my final pet hate of THPG: the defiance of real world physics. Again in Skate. things are tougher by virtue of a very realistic game engine: when i first played i’d quite easily slam against an object i was trying to ollie over as it was too high etc. In THPG, it’s like the world has been moulded to fit skaters. I was able to fall onto a rail, i was dropping straight down and thus had no horizontal speed, and yet when i landed on the perfectly horizontal rail, my speed going across it was ridiculously fast. Whilst little things like that would most probably go unrecognised, in the hands of someone who had tried, toiled with and beaten skate., it seemed positively ludicrous. The physics are all wrong, and that makes the game feel even more cartoony, in contrast to the very real skating experience Skate. offers.
if i could make one recommendation, even to fans of the TH series (TH2 still rules), it’s to buy Skate. and ignore this years TH incarnation

Customer Review: This cable should have come with the Playstation, why so expensive!?
This cable works brilliantly and was instantly picked up by my Playstation, I have plenty of cable to spare so it is definitely long enough, my only complaints are why so expensive? I paid ?17.99 for this product and in my opinion this is too much for something that should be provided with the console! Thanks Sony!!!

Rock Band (PS3)

Customer Review: Biggest Disapointment of the Year!!!
I’m writing this as a review of the US version as the UK version release date has yet to be announced (6+ Months after the US version came out!!!!). You’ve proberbly read all the positive comments about this game but let me tell you the truth. Let me tell you why this game is not going to be worth buying. Firstly Rockband 2 will be announced shortly. The US has had this game for over 7 months. Since the average sequel takes 1 1/2 years to come out and the average sequel is announced 6 months before it’s release date. It is fair to say that by the time Rockband 1 comes out over here Rockband 2 will be released within a few months. Secondly, this game only has 40 tracks on it. It is designed so that you have to buy downloadable tracks at around ?1-2 a track. Guitar Hero has 70+ tracks per game. To get 70+ tracks on Rockband you will pay ?30-60 on top of the actual game (which is expected to be around the ?150 mark). You could say it is a bit of a con! Thirdly, you could spend lots of money on content and when Rockband 2 comes out you will have to buy it again, because it may not be compatible. The graphics are not that good. They have an enhanced PS2 look. They are nowhere near the quality of Guitar Hero 3. You can design your own rockstar… sounds good… until you realise with all the displays on the screen you cant see hardly anything. It really defeats the point and is a total waste of a charector creator. You can create a band… but if there is only you playing.. you will only see the charector you created. So if you wanted a punk band look - only your charector would look “punk”. The other band members would just be random. The guitar/drum note display is not as easy to see as the Guitar Hero franchise. It can get very frustrating on the harder settings. The quality of the instruments are very poor. There are hundreds of reports of the instruments breaking and them having to be replaced. Rumours are that the UK delay is due to EA having to make additional instruments to satisfy all the US customers with broken ones. Does’nt bode well for the UK. Dont waste your hard earned cash on this. If you really must play it. Rent it or buy it secondhand.
Customer Review: AWSOME
I got this game from the US and it’s amazing from more realistic than Guitar Hero for loads of reasons, 1 you can make play sets 2 customize your characters and of course there’s the team/ band play for 1 goal. The Online play seems good too with a few different options that seem to work well. The Only Thing I’m not to sure on is, how well made the guitars are, there not the same build quality as the guitar hero guitars and `overdrive’ (star power) does seem to deploy when you want it to always. All in all tho prob the best game EVER!!!
Midnight Club: Los Angeles (PS3)

Customer Review: MC:LA
With more overall drive-space than the last midnight club’s three maps combined, this looks like another brilliant street racing game from Rockstar. Im afraid i don’t know much more than that at the moment, but I know that if it’s anywhere near as good as the earlier installments in this series then I am gonna be in for one hell of a ride when I get it. and belive me, i AM getting this. Recommended for fans of: Any other midnight club title, street racing in general
