History Channel: Battle for the Pacific (PS3)

History Channel: Battle for the Pacific (PS3)
Customer Review: You get what you pay for…
Oh dear; I wanted to like this game so much as it had the backing of the prestigious satellite tv channel, but I was (and still am) hugely dissapointed. Background graphics are absolutely average (PS2 on a good day) whilst realism and gameplay is amazingly absent. Marvel as the Japanese Zero’s come swooping in, making turns and moving so unrealistically that it makes you cringe into your AAA. I started on the normal level but after storming through 4 levels in 15 minutes, I re-started on hard. I then got 2 levels in and turned it off, opting to re-visit R6 Vegas (1) instead.
My advice? wait for the bargin bin sales or keep an eye out for when I flog mine.

ordered yesterday was delivered today and can’t get better than that. Cheers Amazon!
Customer Review: Fun and reliable
I have had my ps3‘>ps3 for about 6 months now, no problems, all my games are excellent and Endless entertainment, Now i say to anyone who thinks the 360 is cheaper so you should by it, the ps3‘>ps3 and 360 are a fraction of fun to what they would be with ps3‘>ps3 and 360 live and if you do plan to buy a 360 with live think that in the end you will pay more for the xbox, so do not judge on price, the ps3‘>ps3 is excellent and i play on mine constantly.

Customer Review: BUY IT!
Never really got into these battle card games, but this is different. No big caluations, no need for a calulator and no need to strain your memory memorising your monsters HP. Whilst one review didnt like the cotton mat, it is quite good quality and better than using another mterial such as paper (as some of these card games do). The graphics are very impressive and the animations are smooth. You can turn the animations of if you so wish. You dont even need a controller for this game (expect for the menus) and the main game can be played with just cards - which is really cool and convient. The ‘action cards’ need to be held up to the eye which is a knack as you must get it the right distance from the eye and whithout obsuring the face of the card. I personally dont mind the metal soundtrack it seems to suit the game (but when defeat is near - I hate it!). When the game starts to get a bit crowded (with lots of cards on the mat) there is often a problem with one card not being read properly - you fix that and in doing so, you ruin another card etc. Shadows are the main cause of this (so buy/get a desktop lamp or something!). The game allows you focus on the great stratgry element - but the tutrials are more cofusing than they are helpful. Play with a friend the first few times and learn from each others mistakes - before challanging a computer or going online. The cards themselves are good quality and with currently over 110 crds to collect (with more on there way) the game always give you soemthing new. All in all, a great game - a few reconigition problems can easily disrupt your game and put you right off it!
Customer Review: Different, fun and addictive
This game is fairly easy to pick up (guidance videos are available with the game), but also requires a lot of thought and strategy to play. It can be quite challenging, and I love the ruleset and how the game works. The use of the camera works very well. It doesn’t seem to make any mistakes when picking up the cards, which then come to life beautifully on the screen. When you first start playing the novelty of how it works is very exciting. The use of real cards also has another great implication in that they can be collected. You can buy new 30 card decks for around ?7 and booster packs consisting of 8 cards for around ?2.50, which i find is quite resonable. The decks also come with a small booklet containing storis and info about the game, and some cards are rarer than other. (I look forward to being able to trade with my mates for cards i don’t have.) This game allows you to either play against the computer, computer vs computer, player vs player in the same room, or online. Online is very easy to use, allowing you to create both public and private games. If set up the mic on top of the camera also allows you to speak to your opponent. The computer is great for practice, but this game is best when being able to play against a human opponent. When i bought this game I was lucky in that most of my friends were also interested in playing it too, allowing me to play them online (which is something i did take into consideration before buying.) Another thing to take into consideration before getting this game is the space required to set it up. This game uses a mat to lay your cards out on. It’s best if you hav a good flat surface in a well lit room. I have a desk lamp placed directly over the top of mine, as i’ve noticed the camera does start struggling to read things when my lights are low. One thing i would have liked in this game would have been a single player campaign type mode. The Playstation eye which comes with this game has also received a lot of use outside of EOJ, as other games also work with it. If you already have a camera, i have seen this game available separately for around ?40 in the shops. Overall I’m very impressed with the game. It’s unique and fun. If you like card games, fantasy, magic, or just something a bit different, chances are you’ll like it too…

Virtua Fighter 5 (PS3) Customer Review: Need to play the others ones?
First things first, i’ve always been a Tekken fan. SoulCalibur too but that has weapons so i don’t put it in the same fighter bracket.
I understand that many people regard the Virtua Fighter series quite highly and as a seasoned gamer i thought it was about time i expanded my beat ‘em horizons.
I’ve enjoyed many, many hours of Tekken with my friends sat around a play station. But VF5 wasn’t enjoyable at all. I’m not labelling it a bad game, it blatantly isn’t cause people keep making them and fans keep buying them. I just didn’t enjoy this.
My main problem is probably that i hadn’t played the older ones and picked up the battle system. The learning curve seemed very steep and i wasn’t prepared to learn it all.
From my point of view it seemed slow and really quite boring, but at the same time i suppose the fighting is more realistic. My warning is for other Tekken fans thinking of trying this out, get it pre-owned it rent it.
Customer Review: All that glitters is not gold….
Visually pretty, the main mode (quest) is repetitive.
This silky looking game is very much linear with a total lack of depth compared to say Soul Calibre, Dead or a live or tekken. What seems to be a very basic button mashing arcade game has been poorely ported over, hardly expanding on the original concept.
Once you’ve played this game for 10 minutes, you’ve played it all.
